Description

Welcome to Openverse Hacknight, an informal and fun 24-hour virtual event hosted by the Open Source Developers' Community (OSDC). It's a great chance to build projects, learn, and collaborate with like-minded coders all in a relaxed, creative environment.

1. Communication:
  • All event updates, communication, and the project submission form link will be shared on our Discord Server.

2. Theme:
  • Openverse means there’s no set theme: participants can build projects in any domain or using any technology they want.

    Examples:

    • A mobile app to track daily habits

    • An AI-powered chatbot for campus info

    • A game that helps people learn coding

  • The special GenAI track focuses on projects using generative AI. Instead of simple prompt wrappers, projects should show creative and innovative workflows like:

    • AI-assisted writing tools with smart context

    • Custom generative art apps with unique features

    • AI-powered automation workflows for productivity

    • Chatbots with multi-turn conversations and memory

3. Eligibility:
4. Rules:
  • All paticipants must join this Discord Server for participation in mini-events, announcements and doubt support.

  • GenAI Track Rule: Simple wrappers using basic memory or system prompts won’t meet judging standards. We expect creativity and complexity, with GenAI workflows playing a key role in the project’s originality and depth.

  • Proper licensing and attribution for external code/assets is required.

  • All code must be open source and public.

  • Only Git is allowed for version control.

  • Teams that fail to submit their project will be disqualified and won’t be considered for evaluations.

  • All code must be written during the hackathon hours.

  • Late commits will not be accepted.

  • Projects must be new (not submitted elsewhere).

  • All submissions must be complete and working.

  • Rule violations may lead to disqualification.

  • Organizing team's decisions are final.

  • Plagiarism will lead to instant disqualification.

5. What to Build:
  • Any software project that fits the openverse concept and is fully open-source.

  • Mandatory use of Git for version control and public GitHub repository hosting.

6. What to Submit:
  • Project code repository link and demonstration details.

  • Submission form and guidelines will be provided on the Discord Server.

7. Judging Criteria:
  • Uniqueness & Creativity:
Original and innovative ideas will be rewarded. Projects that stand out with freshness, creativity, and clever problem-solving/entertainment will score higher.

  • GenAI Track Specific:
Projects must demonstrate genuine innovation beyond simple wrappers or basic prompts. Creative, complex GenAI workflows are a major judging factor.

  • Completeness: Fully functional project at submission time.

  • Design & Aesthetics: UI should be clean, intuitive, and user friendly if present.

  • Timeframe Realism: Scope must be reasonable for the hackathon duration.

  • Credits & Attribution: Proper credit is required for all external libraries/code; plagiarism leads to disqualification.
