SideQuest : AI-Powered Document Intelligence System

SideQuest is a full-stack AI application that allows users to upload large documents — legal contracts, books, research papers, manuals — and have an intelligent conversation with them. Every response is grounded strictly in the uploaded document and comes with precise citations pointing back to the exact page and section the answer was derived from.

What This Project Does

SideQuest lets users:

1. Upload a large document (PDF, DOCX, TXT) of any size — a 500-page legal contract, a full textbook, a government report.

2. Ask questions in plain English about the content of that document.

3. Receive accurate, grounded answers — not hallucinated guesses — with explicit citations like "This answer is based on Page 42, Section 3.1 — Liability Clauses."

4. Verify every claim the AI makes by referencing the exact portion of the document it pulled the answer from.

This is not a general-purpose chatbot. The AI is strictly constrained to answer only from the document provided. If the answer is not in the document, it says so.

The Core Problem It Solves

Why can't you just paste a big document into ChatGPT?

Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 or Claude have a context window — a hard limit on how much text they can process at one time. A typical context window is around 128,000–200,000 tokens (roughly 90,000–150,000 words). A single legal document or textbook can far exceed this.
