SafeRoute is a navigation tool that helps pedestrians find safer routes by analyzing urban data such as street lighting, population density, and nearby public places. Instead of only showing the shortest path, it recommends routes that pass through well-lit and more active areas.
SafeRoute is a system designed to help people find safer walking routes, especially at night. Unlike regular navigation apps that focus only on the shortest path, SafeRoute considers safety-related factors while suggesting routes.
The project uses datasets such as street lighting data, population density, and points of interest (restaurants, shops, bus stops, metro stations, and hospitals) to estimate how safe an area is. Based on this information, each road is given a safety score, and routes passing through well-lit and more active areas are recommended.
In the future, the system can be improved by adding datasets like traffic density, CCTV coverage, and crime statistics to make the safety score more accurate and provide better route recommendations.
