Architecture and creation of the Project Segfault Pubnix

Approved

I want to use this talk to showcase how ideas that are generally considered as outdated, like pubnixes/tildes were for a really long time, can be made enticing for modern users by simple but important fixes.

This talk will cover the following:

  • What a pubnix is and its origins (including SDF)

  • The tildeverse concept

  • A little bit about Project Segfault, and our funding (FOSS U Grant + Donations shilling)

  • How Project Segfault's pubnix differs from the legacy pubnixes

  • Why caddy is amazing and everyone should use it :D

  • How we make it work network/storage wise

  • Nix on Debian!

  • Security aspects of hosting a pubnix

  • Difficulties we faced when creating a pubnix this big

Story of a FOSS project - from inception to growth
