We start with some vital, but often-overlooked questions - what is FOSS? Why is it important for end users? Why has there been a movement pushing for FOSS since the '80s?
We then introduce OpenStreetMap, taking a look at who uses it, how it prevents vandalism, and three FOSS applications (CoMaps, OsmAnd, and OsmAPP) which use OSM data to provide alternatives to proprietary map apps like Google Maps.
We also briefly mention some resources through which developers can use OSM data in their applications.
We then discuss how the "FOSS" nature of OpenStreetMap provides it a number of advantages over Google Maps.
Finally, we discuss a few different ways of how the audience can make the OSM ecosystem better, including joining or starting a local OSM community.
